Beyond the Feed: Building Wealth on Social Media

Specialist OnlyFans accountants in Australia

Being on OnlyFans means you’re your own boss  but it also means the ATO sees you as running a business. That’s why it’s so important to get your money side sorted early. Every subscription, tip, and pay-per-view is income, even if it just feels like cash hitting your account. On top of that, things you spend money on to create content, like lingerie, toys, lighting, hair, nails, or even part of your rent, could count as tax deductions if they’re for your work. Most creators miss out on huge savings because no one explains this stuff. We help you keep it simple, stay compliant, and make sure you don’t pay more tax than you have to.

Discreet, no-judgement accountants for OnlyFans creators

Opt for phone meetings to remain private

Unlike traditional old-school accountants, we don’t judge.

We know that working on OnlyFans can be hard to talk about, and that some accountants can make you feel uncomfortable. That’s not us. We don’t judge, and we don’t shame. You’ve built a real business, and we’re here to help you protect it, grow it, and stay compliant.

Our job is to make your financial life easier, never awkward. You can be completely open with us. This is a safe, private, and professional space built on respect and understanding.

Pain Points: The Tax Struggles Every Creator Knows

If you’ve ever thought any of these, you’re not alone:

  • Do I even have to pay tax on OnlyFans?

  • Do I need to be registered for GST?

  • Can I claim outfits, hair, nails, or my phone bill?

  • I get money from subs, tips, brand deals, freebies… how do I track all this?

  • Do I get taxed on gifts?

  • What happens if the ATO checks my account and I’ve done it wrong?

We hear this from creators every day. The truth is, it’s not as scary as it seems once you’ve got the right advice.

Turning Subs into Income? Here’s the Tax Side of Things

Many influencers go from part-time creators to full-time entrepreneurs overnight. If you’re making consistent income, it’s time to:

Separate personal & business finances (consider a business account)
Track all earnings from multiple platforms
Consider registering as a sole trader or company
Set up superannuation & tax payments

Pro Tip: Don’t wait until tax time.

Call us now to help you plan ahead of tax time and potentially save you in tax debt or fines.

MYTHS & TRUTHS

Myth: If I call it a hobby, I don’t pay tax.
Truth: The ATO doesn’t care what you call it,  if money’s consistently coming in, it’s taxable income.

Myth: OnlyFans doesn’t report my income to the ATO, so I’m safe.
Truth: Payment platforms leave a digital trail. The ATO uses data-matching and can see it.

Myth: I only earn in USD, so Aussie tax rules don’t apply.
Truth: If you live in Australia, your worldwide income counts. Period.

Myth: I can claim everything I buy as a deduction.
Truth: You can only claim the work-related portion. Keep good records to back it up.

Do OnlyFans creators pay tax in Australia?

Short answer: yes. If you're earning on OnlyFans with the intention of making money, the ATO treats it as a business not a hobby. Every dollar counts: subscriptions, tips, pay-per-view, custom content and paid DMs. Since 1 July 2024, the ATO receives creator earnings data directly under the Sharing Economy Reporting Regime, so "they can't see it" simply isn't true anymore. The good news is that being a business also unlocks deductions, and with the right setup most creators legally keep far more of what they earn.

OnlyFans and GST: when you need to register

Once your total business income from all sources hits $75,000 in any rolling 12-month period, GST registration becomes compulsory even if OnlyFans already handles GST on your subscriptions. After you register, you lodge a BAS (usually quarterly) and GST can apply to things like sponsorships, collaborations, digital products and merch. Plenty of creators cross the threshold without realising and get a nasty surprise. We watch the line for you, handle registration and BAS, and make sure you're not paying GST you don't owe  or missing GST you do.

Getting paid in USD: foreign income explained

OnlyFans pays out in US dollars, and that trips a lot of creators up. As an Australian resident you're taxed on your worldwide income, so USD earnings must be converted to Australian dollars and declared. Get the conversion method or timing wrong and your return won't match the ATO's data. We handle the foreign-income reporting correctly, including any overseas brand or platform income, so it all lines up.

Sole trader, company or trust. Which is right for you?

Most creators start as sole traders because it's the simplest path and there's no separate return to lodge. As your income grows, a company or trust can offer real advantages: tax efficiency, asset protection, and privacy for example, keeping a business name (rather than your personal name) on the public ABN register. There's no one-size answer; the right structure depends on your income level, risk and goals. We model the options before you commit so you're not restructuring later.
